In 2016 Renown Health and REMSA announced an innovative alliance to improve health throughout the region through Community Health Programs. The Programs improve quality of care, access and reduce out-of-pocket expenses for patients.
- The Nurse Health Line is a dedicated call line staffed with expert nurses 24/7. Washoe County residents can call anytime with nonemergency medical questions and speak directly with a nurse who will assess their health condition and provide information for home care or determine if medical attention is needed.
- The Community Paramedicine Program is a valuable resource for patients requiring repeat appointments. With a referral from their medical provider, patients can avoid travel and instead receive calls and visits in their own homes from specially-trained community paramedics.
- With the Alternative Destination Transport Program, the ER isn’t the only option for individuals who call 911. Paramedics can transport patients to urgent care, detoxification centers and mental health hospitals, as appropriate.
Since 2012, the Community Health Programs have reduced more than 6,000 unnecessary emergency room visits and 1,000 ambulance transports were avoided.
